Epa Suriname Cuff
- Gold Plated Brass
- 14k-18k Gold Available Upon Request
This cuff was created as an awareness piece to honor the Maroon culture of Suriname. Maroons were escaped African slaves who managed to overcome slavery and escape captivity, and managed to find settlements in remote areas of the Americas. The symbol- Epa- originally a west-African Adinkra symbol, represents a handcuff. Much of the symbolism within Maroon art can be traced back to its west African roots. Its statement is primarily to adorn oneself with your heritage, and to see this as strength. In this case, it symbolizes never to forget the past of slavery and to see this past as strength and a testimony of overcoming adversity.
